Rules Houten
Our towing field in Houten is situated underneath the commercial airline approach and departure route of Schiphol airport.
Their controlled airspace starts at FL055 (approx 1700 meters). Of course the exact altitude is dependant of local air pressure, so for safety purposes we impose a max flight height above ground of 1400 meters under all circumstances.
In spring and summer we often reach this altitude, due to thermal favourable soil - from this location we often make long flights !

We are very happy and proud to be able to fly here on this unique location. Terlet is an official airfield ánd a national park. This imposes a set of rules on us as guests and we ask everyone visiting to know- and strictly adhere to these rules. The towing site in Doorn is centrally located in the country, at the foot of the beautiful Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The location of the towing site is ideal for thermals and x-country flying in the Netherlands. The field itself is located on sandy soil, to the north the forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug begin and to the south it is clay soil. This produces good temperature differences and therefore good, solid thermals! In the spring we even had cores of +5.5 m/s. A beautiful XC route to the east is open from this site.
This towing site is only available to pilots with a L2 towing rating. Furthermore, it is the intention that the pilots arrange the day themselves, which means that you are each other's start leader and also ensure that cables are retrieved in time. Ultimately, it is the intention that the pilots who fly here also become winch operators, so that there is not always 1 winchman on the ground looking up jealously all the time. In the beginning PaHo will provide a winch operator so that you can fly and work on your winch operator training.
Rules towing location Doorn
In the weekend we can climb to FL055, above which the flight path of Schiphol starts. During the week we can climb to FL045, above that the TMZ-B starts. The exact height of the approach path depends on the air pressure (flight levels are based on air pressure). We assume that as certified pilots you are familiar with your instruments and can set them correctly so that you do not accidentally fly into airspace where you are not allowed to be. We urge you to adhere to these maximum flight heights!
Public transport
The field is not easily reachable by public transport.

Our towing field in Houten is centrally located in the country and in the middle of the beautiful farmlands of the island of
Schalkwijk. The view from the air over the polders and the river Lek is beautiful! The towing strip is approx. 1 km long so you
can get nice and high on the winch. Due to the clay soil there are regularly thermals in spring and summer, often long flights are made.

In the period from November 1 to the end of February we are guests at the beautiful and enormous National Gliding Center Terlet. The terrain has towing strips for different wind directions, varying in length from 1000 - 1400 meters. Due to the dry sandy soil, there are usually good thermals from spring. The view is beautiful and restaurant 'de Thermiekbel' is next to the field !
